I'll admit it didn't look good that Anthony had been expecting a very large infusion of cash at the exact moment a large shipment of pirated DVDs was found in the basement at Comedy Tonight. But this one might knock his theater - and Elliot - out for good...

The was a new-to-me author and the 1st book in the new Double Feature cozy mystery series. I enjoyed this book. The characters are likable, just your normal, average everyday type people. And who of us doesn't envy Elliott doing what he wants with his life even though it's not going quite as he planned. I mean he probably hadn't counted on the dead body in his theater. The clues are cleverly hidden and I didn't figure out whodunit until Elliott did. Book 2 is due out later this year so I'll be visiting with Elliott again.

P.S. If you're a fan of comedy, especially older black and white movie versions you should check out this series as Elliott is a serious fan and makes references throughout the book to actors, quotes and movies.

Attorney Avery Andrews left her BMW behind in Columbia, South Carolina, along with her job at a high-powered law firm. She's come back home to Dacus where the vehicle of choice is a pickup truck with a dog chained in the back. Avery wants time to rethink her career and her life. What she gets is a bossy great aunt drumming up clients and dragging her to social teas. That's how Avery ends up hired by a local factory to help with a messy environmental problem. But she's at Luna Lake because an old high-school classmate is trying to get her attention with a half-baked stunt, when divers find a car containing a corpse. Now, the discovery of the dead body sweeps Avery into a red-hot case ... and into the sizzling secrets of small-town life, where some people get away with murder.

I was looking forward to reading Southern Fried after reading an excerpt from Hush My Mouth, the 4th book in the series, provided by Read It First. Unfortunately this 1st book was a disappointing start to a popular series. If you pay even the smallest bit of attention to the story line you'll easily unravel the clues to a murder and an arson fire. Also, I found Avery's character flat and one dimensional. She didn't show the personality and sense of humor that came through in the excerpt. If this had been my only exposure to this series I'd stop but I know it gets better so on to Done Gone Wrong.

This is book 6 in the GhostWalker series by Christine Feehan. While overall I enjoyed this book it took longer for my interest to be caught, almost a 1/3 of way through. I think it's because I know what to expect now that I'm 6 books in. Much more time is spent on the relationship between Jess and Sabre than developing the actual story. Plot lines are starting to run the same course throughout this series without much deviation from book to book. When this series was new to me I didn't know what to expect and therefore I read with more anticipation. While I don't usually read books that have supernatural and/or paranormal aspects as a major feature for the most part this series is plausible and I enjoy the powers and abilities these characters have been given.
